Calculator Use

Calculators that graph, scientificand 4-function calculators are acceptable or available for certain Practice (r) tests. Unless specifically stated that a calculator is permitted for a particular test Calculators are not allowed to be used.

Test takers aren't allowed to use calculators in a shared manner.

Tests That Do Not Permit Use of a Calculator

In general, unless specifically stated that a specific type of calculator is permitted or is required for a particular exam, calculators can't be used for all Practice test.

Tests That Permit the Use of a Calculator

You may use a four-function or scientific calculator to pass taking the Middle School: Content Knowledge (5146) test, though it is not required to do so. You'll need to bring your own calculator to the testing centre. There is no calculator available by the center for testing. A graphing calculator isn't allowed during this test.

Types of CalculatorsThat Are Not Permitted

The following items are not allowed to be used on Praxis tests:

  • Laptops and portable computers
  • Electronic pads for writing
  • Models with pen-input/stylus/touch-screen capability
  • Calculators can be found on any phone and watches as well as on other electronic devices
  • Models equipped with QWERTY or other alphabetic keyboards in the hardware or software
  • Models with printers
  • Models that make noise , or "talk"
  • The models require an outlet
  • Models that can access the internet or have Wireless or Bluetooth (r) capability.
  • Models that have a camera, scanning capability or digital audio/video player recording/player capabilities

In addition, the usage of any hardware peripherals is prohibited.

Tests That Provide an On-screen Calculator

Calculators from test takers' own calculators aren't allowed for Praxis assessments that offer on-screen calculators.

On-Screen Scientific Calculator

Following practice tests use an onscreen scientific calculator. The tests use the TX-30XS MultiView(tm) calculator. A tutorial is available so you can practice using the on-screen calculator before your test day.

On-Screen Graphing Calculator

These practice tests have an onscreen graphing calculator. The tests are based on this TI-84 Plus CE calculator. A tutorial is available to ensure that you may practice using the calculator's on-screen interface prior to your exam day.
